All participants – in suits or not – must have a badge.
The club will be open for parade prep on Sunday, December 28th from 10AM to 6PM
This is our last full prep day at the club.
We expect the Quaker City String Band to stop by in the afternoon. We’re thinking they will arrive anytime from 3PM to 4:30PM. Please join us to hear an old fashion serenade outside of our club.
Truck Day We need help loading the trucks on Wednesday, December 31st at 9AM. We will transport the large frame suits to City Hall via trucks. All help is appreciated. If you have a frame suit, you are expected to help get it on the trucks and/or up to City Hall on Truck Day.
January 1st - Club will open at 5AM. Please arrive early enough to apply makeup before we leave at 7AM. We also encourage you to apply makeup at home if possible, as there is limited mirror space and makeup available at the club. Reminder – no black, solid color or half & half face paint is allowed.
*Frame suits should plan to go to convention center or make arrangements for someone to walk their frame to JFK
Parking is difficult near the club, but we often find open spaces under I-95 especially near Tasker Street. Do not park on 2nd Street – you will be towed.
Buses – We will have buses available to take you to 15th and Market. We will leave the club by 7AM – please be on time if you plan to take the bus.
If you are meeting us at the staging area, we will be on the west side of City Hall (in the 1500 block of Market Street) – please arrive by 8:00am. If you do not need to be at the club in the morning, or have a large group, we recommend meeting us at City Hall.
At City Hall
When we arrive, we will be lining you up in the order that you will be performing. It’s very important that you stay in order prior to performing! Please see an officer or board member if you need assistance with lining up.
Your performance in front of the judges will last approximately 1 minute – remember to smile and keep your head up! We will start performing at 9am.
On Broad Street
After judging, we will move around City Hall to the south, towards Broad Street. Once you have finished performing and we have started making our way down Broad Street, there is no need to stay in order – you can move around with friends, take pictures with the crowds, and have a good time.
Please remember that you must stay BEHIND the DJ Truck and the Captain’s Suit float
The DJ and the Captain’s Suit will be setting the pace and stopping as needed. There will also be two additional performances for the Captain’s Suit at Pine Street and in front of CAPA.
If you need assistance at any point on the parade route please ask a Marshal. Marshals are anyone not in a costume on New Year’s Day. They should be in club gear, wearing black, red, and or white. They are going to help you so please do not hesitate to ask!
Reminder – no alcohol is allowed on Broad Street.
We will leave the area and walk down Washington Avenue to Moyamensing Avenue, and from there to Tasker Street to the back doors of the garage. If you are not in a backpiece, please help those that are pulling frame suits – it’s a long walk back!
Back at the Clubhouse
Once we are back on Tasker Street, please follow directions for bringing the frame suits back into the garage – they need to be brought in carefully and in a specific order to make sure everything fits. There will be racks and hangers available to hang up your suit - please try to keep all the pieces together and remember to ask for help if needed! All suits should be put away at the clubhouse and it’s entirety (if it is a suit that belongs to the club). Golden Sunrise is not scheduled to participate in the 2 Street Parade this year therefore our suits will not be going back out.
Everyone should assist with unloading the trucks and putting away the suits and back pieces. Small children (with an adult) may stay inside the clubhouse. Once we are finished unloading, everyone is invited inside. Please refrain from entering the clubhouse until we are formally invited upon the completion of the necessary tasks. There will be plenty of food and drinks and the parade will be on TV. Spend the afternoon with us ringing in the New Year and celebrating another successful parade!
Some Important Reminders!
Our suits can be heavy and warm, but we encourage light layers underneath for insulation if it’s very cold. Make sure to drink lots of water! We will have a school bus with us on Broad Street if you need to take a break.
When at the clubhouse before and after the parade, please be respectful of our neighbors. All participants should refrain from sitting on the steps of the neighboring houses. This includes using the steps directly next to ours.
Golden Sunrise is proud to be a family club. Alcohol will not be permitted on the parade route – please refrain until we are heading back to the clubhouse. Excessive alcohol or any drug use will not be tolerated. You are responsible for your actions and anyone you bring to a club function. Anyone in violation of these rules will be asked to leave immediately. This is to ensure that we all can stay safe and have a great experience!
We can't wait to see you all and to celebrate another happy new year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Golden Sunrise NYA
January 1st Marshal Information.
A Mummers Parade Marshal serves as a vital on-the-ground support and logistics coordinator for Golden Sunrise NYA during the New Year's Day Mummers Parade. Marshals ensure the safety of the performers, maintain the integrity of the performance area and parade route, and act as the primary liaison between the performers and club leadership.
Their responsibilities are demanding and typically include:
Safety and Security:
Perimeter Control: Establishing and maintaining a safe space around the costumed mummers
Flow Management: Monitoring foot traffic and keeping the parade route clear for the costumed mummers to proceed without interruption. Marshals should also ensure that all parade participants are safely behind the DJ truck and behind the Captains Suit float and performers.
Emergency Response: Being aware of potential hazards and helping to guide costumed mummers to safety in case of an emergency.
Logistics and Flow:
Set Placement: Guiding the movement and placement of props, banner carriers, and frame suits throughout the parade route.
Time Management: Helping to keep the division moving at the necessary pace to avoid large gaps in the parade route or bottlenecks.
Equipment Transport: Assisting with the movement of smaller props, sound equipment, or other critical gear.
Performer Support:
Hydration: Ensuring performers in large, heavy suits have access to water and necessary breaks.
Costume Assistance: Quickly addressing minor suit malfunctions (e.g., loose feathers, minor repairs) to keep the performer ready.
In essence, the Marshal is the eyes, ears, and hands of the leadership on the street, directly supporting the performers and ensuring the entire division delivers a high-quality, safe, and uninterrupted parade.
Marshals are expected to adhere to the same alcohol policy:
Golden Sunrise is proud to be a family club. Alcohol will not be permitted on the parade route – please refrain until we are heading back to the clubhouse. Excessive alcohol or any drug use will not be tolerated. You are responsible for your actions and anyone you bring to a club function. Anyone in violation of these rules will be asked to leave immediately. This is to ensure that we all can stay safe and have a great experience!
January 1st:
All marshals need a parade badge.
Badges are available for purchase - $7 cash/Venmo or PayPal.
All participants – in suits or not – must have a badge.
All marshals are to wear Golden Sunrise club gear, all black, or black with red and/or white. It is important that we look like an organized, cohesive club, and you are easily identifiable as a marshal to assist costumed performers.
Most marshal will be specifically “assigned” to a suit or performer to work with. You may, and should, help anyone in need, but by organizing in a way that marshals are given specific suit(s) to keep an eye on will help assist in a smooth parade day.
